Design Brief  

Barnard Levit is highly regarded in the optical field – at the forefront of innovation, with cutting edge clinical and diagnostic technology, and is renowned for providing the highest level of optometric care.  

However, the outstanding reputation and kudos affiliated with Barnard Levit wasn’t reflected within their practice branding or environment. And, the retail outlet and customer experience needed design consideration 

The Barnard Levit team had a clear vision for the style they wanted to achieve, inspired by their research across luxury and stylish optical environments in Europe. The interior needed to achieve a boutique environment, establishing a tone of opulence, class and warmth.  

Our Approach

Situated in an old residential style building, with a traditional interior environment, there was plenty of opportunity for Retail Experience Design to transform the practice, whilst introducing key retail design principles to improve the customer experience. 

As part of the project strategy, Retail Experience Design reviewed an existing practice and developed the design approach for a team of dispensary directors and managers. This element of the project included exploring the brand, as well as understanding the business strategy and future vision. 

Retail Experiences Designs approach was to transform existing environment, aligning it to the Barnard Levit brand and company values, whilst elevating the retail outlet and customer experience.

What we delivered

With the reconfiguration of the space, the retail aspect of practice was transformed, providing focus on the customer experiencethe flow of the space and application of touchpoints provided customers and patients with breathing space and the ability to circulate around the space at ease. The overall interior design achieved an elegant, stylish and refined finish. 

The project also saw the relocation of the dispensing, posited next to the testing suite to create separate areas for clinical and retail. The original space was fragmented, with products sporadically located, therefore the reconfiguration provided an opportunity to implement new product areas. Premium, high end materials were introduced throughout and included solid surfacing, thick section glass, Victorian gilded tiles and a luxurious bespoke counter 

A few words from Barnard Levit

Retail Experience Design (RED) have recently worked magic on our wonderful new refurbishment project. The end result is more than we ever dreamed of!  

We stumbled across RED at 100% Optical in January 2018 and immediately realised that this was the company we were looking for to bring our 20 year old practice into the 21st century, with a gleaming boutique transformation. 

RED were an utter pleasure to deal with at all times, and showed endless patience with our myriad demands, complications and delays at our end in getting the project off the ground. 

In addition, the contractors advised by RED have been excellent and continue to keep in touch and sort out all snaggings whenever required. 

I cannot recommend RED highly enough and am enormously grateful for a job spectacularly well done!
