WSU Atrium - Community Space Design Project

The Challenge

Warwick Student’s Union, Atrium building, is home to the student’s main social area and food and drink outlets. But, the multifunctional space appeared uninspiring and lacked cohesion.

WSU asked us to translate their new brand into the Atrium building and help transform the space into a dynamic destination for students to work and socialise.

What we did

Our brief was to create a vibrant and truly student-owned space, to provide agile working and relaxation choices for daytime and social and events space for evenings.

Given that we needed to transform the space without a full re-configuration, we focused on the design and development of key elements, includng: Graphics, Wayfinding, Signage, Lighting Fixtures & fittings, Flooring and materials and finishes.

We turned the project around within WSU’s tight timescales, working resourcefully and imaginatively to their modest budget, providing creative solutions to improve the functionality and appearance of the space.

The finished result transformed the Atrium building into an exciting and practical space that encourages and inspires students to come-together to work and socialise.

“Warwick Students’ Union worked with Retail Experience Design on refurbishing our main daytime student social space – the SU Atrium. RED provided great insight right from the start of the project, and gave us some great concepts to begin the design process.
