The Challenge
Prince & Bates, a thriving optical practice, found themselves constrained by their existing space, which was struggling to keep up with their growth. With extra dispensing areas squeezed in and retail displays gradually added over time, their practice had become disjointed, with no clear or defined customer journey, making it difficult for patients to navigate the space.
What we did
To create a cohesive space and elevate the dispensing experience, we designed three bespoke dispensing booths crafted from acoustic materials and complemented by an architectural framework. These open structures blended seamlessly into the retail environment, creating intimate, calm, and private areas without the need for separate rooms. This design allowed Prince & Bates to offer a tailored dispensing service that highlights their higher-end products.
We also curated an engaging retail experience with a variety of bespoke touchpoints and displays, enabling Prince & Bates to dynamically showcase their frames and create a visually captivating space that adapts to different merchandising needs, enhancing the journey for all their customers and patients.

This has resulted in a transformed, contemporary space that combines practical functionality with an elevated aesthetic. The new design concept for Prince & Bates encompassed all elements of the practice, from brand development and graphics to smart storage solutions and the restoration of the timber shop exterior. Prince & Bates now boasts an effective, adaptable practice that caters to the diverse needs of its customers, offering a tailored patient journey that reflects the practice’s unique style and ambition.
Having spoken with a few companies about our planned refurb and not found what we were looking for, RED was recommended to us and after the first meeting we were sure they were the right choice. The design ideas, problem solving and advice given was superb. It was nice to be able to trust a team who had worked within the industry on other refurbishments to guide us through the process. Dean and the team helped from the initial designs, to the tender process and the end product. The feedback from our team and patients has been very positive, as we have had a total transformation. Although we have only been back in our newly refurbished practice for 5 weeks, we have already seen a 30% increase in sales for the same time period YOY.
