HOYA office refurbishment

Workspace

The Challenge

We were asked to rethink HOYA’s manufacturing office — a large workspace that no longer worked for the team.

The existing office environment was a standard off-the-shelf fit-out: dated, generic, and out of sync with day-to-day operations. Different teams were grouped together with no clear zoning, poor acoustics, and little consideration for how the space could support people to work efficiently.

The brief was clear: redesign the office to support how people actually work, and to create a more joined-up design with the newly refurbished customer areas — creating a more cohesive environment that considered the needs of both staff and visitor

What we did

We started by looking at how different teams worked. Some were on the phones, others focused on technical tasks — each with different needs. We spoke to staff, explored how the business operated, and identified what people needed to do their jobs well.

From this, we developed and tested prototype workstations to make sure the final design supported day-to-day tasks. The floor plan was key. The layout needed to be practical and reflect how the office was actually used — not just rows of desks. We introduced clear zones to give each team space to focus, collaborate, and move through the day with fewer distractions.

Working to a modest budget, we made the most of what was already in place. Rather than remove the suspended ceiling, we used new tiles to define zones. The same approach applied to the flooring — replacing tiles only in key areas to avoid the cost of reflooring the entire space.

The aesthetic was shaped by the HOYA brand and built on the design of the customer areas. Materials, finishes, and colours carried the same calm, professional tone to ensure visual consistency across the site. To support wellbeing, we introduced a planting scheme — a mix of real and faux greenery — bringing calm and softness to the working environment.

Results

Our focus was on creating a calm, functional space that felt more comfortable and intuitive for staff to work in. The new layout, combined with bespoke workstations and custom furniture, storage, and display units, now supports day-to-day tasks more effectively — helping teams stay focused, organised, and efficient.

Visually, the design ties in with HOYA’s customer spaces, creating a sense of cohesion across the site and reinforcing the brand throughout the working environment.

Result

“Our mission was to create a workspace where our team feel proud to work. We wanted to create an environment which enables our team to provide the highest standard of care to our patients. To achieve this, we needed to engage a design team that understood our business and shares our vision for the space.

We are absolutely delighted, the attention to detail is superb and we have created a workspace which certainly has the wow factor. It ticks all the boxes of being professional and functional, yet comfortable and attractive.”
