The significance of space and interior design in the work environment continues to bring about positive change in the workplace, as organizations recognize how good design can help create a motivational and productive environment, benefiting both employees and employers.
McKesson UK (formally Lloyds pharmacy) identified that their office meeting rooms were impacting employee morale, motivation and colleague interaction. So, they asked Retail Experience Design to help transform their vanilla office meeting rooms into an environment where employees felt inspired and creative. But, most importantly, a space that would enhance employee productivity.
Retail Experience Design initiated the project by observing the behaviour of people using the space, focusing on how colleagues interacted with each other, as well as the general environment.
The design approach needed to consider the overall relationship between employees and the general environment, including layout, workstation design, and equipment, as well as physical environment factors such as light, noise, ventilation, and space.
What we delivered
A flexible concept was created to allow the various meeting rooms to differentiate from each other. What’s more the flexible concept would ensure the ease of integration across the varying sized rooms.
To achieve a creative tone for the space, funky fixtures and fittings were adopted, along with attention to materials and colours. Feature wall panelling added character to an originally vanilla space, whilst traditional tables and chairs we replaced with standing desks and brainstorming areas to include integrated AV and wipeable white walls.
The final concept design delivered a space and layout that felt creative and inspiring, yet comfortable and functional. What’s more, the new concept worked hard to enhance the McKesson brand and culture – ultimately to enhance employee productivity.
The senior team at McKesson UK loved the concept, which allowed Retail Experience Design to create a full drawing pack and specification for McKesson to contract the build and implementation works.
