Glimpse firmly places being an ‘independent’ at the heart of what they do and why they do it. What’s more, they pride themselves on being a key cog in the Birmingham independent trader scene. It’s one of the reasons they chose the historic and stunning Great Western Arcade, Central Birmingham as a home for Glimpse.
Retail Experience Design was briefed to create a contemporary and original space, which would enhance the brand values of Glimpse, whilst complementing the impressive Great Western Arcade location.
Retail Experience Design’s vision was to create a physical environment that established an urban and quirky space, whilst achieving a warm and welcoming atmosphere. As a small space, the design objective was to innovatively exhibit the unique and exclusive range of eyewear and brands, yet with careful consideration being given to ensure the eyewear and lenses wouldn’t be overshadowed by the store design.
To accentuate the urban and raw characteristics of the space, Retail Experience Design introduced the use of natural floorboards, concrete walls, exposed brick pillars, and ceilings. Led, cascading lightings added an element of drama, but also warmth into the space.
Floating display units, bright yellow metal works and illuminated shelving working against the exposed raw materials created a nice contrast to elevate the eyewear and lens products whilst creating a unique instore design feature.
What we delivered
Retail Experience Design accomplished an urban and quirky optical environment that fused cleverly with the unique historic city centre setting. By accentuating the raw characteristics of the space, with innovative shelving display units, Retail Experience Design created a contemporary retail environment that excellently exhibited the unique and exclusive range of eyewear offered by Glimpse. Overall the design worked hard to appeal to on-trend optical consumers who appreciate and enjoy experiencing some of the world’s exclusive brands and interesting eyewear.
